1099 & Self-Employed Tax Estimator (2026)
Estimates federal self-employment + income tax. Not tax advice.
- Social Security (12.4% on first $184,500)$11,680
- Medicare (2.9% on all SE earnings)$2,732
- Federal income tax (on $78,694 taxable)$12,025

How the SE Tax Math Works
Self-employment tax is the Social Security and Medicare you'd pay if an employer split it with you. Since you're 1099, you pay both halves.
Net Schedule C
Gross income minus all business expenses (mileage, marketing, professional fees, etc.).
× 92.35%, then 15.3%
Multiply net by 0.9235 (the "SE adjustment"), then apply 12.4% Social Security up to the wage base + 2.9% Medicare on all of it.
+ Income Tax
Add federal income tax on (net Schedule C − half of SE tax − standard deduction). Divide total by 4 for your quarterly.
The Calculator Is Useful. The App Is Automatic.
KeyTax tracks every expense and income entry as it happens, so your SE tax estimate is always current — not a once-a-quarter best guess.
